The Weirdos

Senior Solo Show

March 21-25, 2023

In this experiment, I have explored the history of cyanotypes as a method of scientific documentation. Traditionally showcasing botanical life, cyanotypes have been used to make detailed, silhouetted accounts of objects. I have chosen to display my test subjects in unique positions within a small framing. The test subjects are my 1 year old kittens, who I affectionately call “weirdos.”

Humorously calling upon a narrative of a controlled experiment, this body of work is a satirical nod to the unexpected and extraordinary nature of alternative processes. Despite prior experience and consideration, many works take on forms of their own. Water, sunlight, temperature, and time are often thieves of a careful plan. Scientific experiments are usually a desire to reach a conclusion, epiphany, or verdict. Instead of being rigid, I have focused on the aspects of play and investigation.

“The Weirdos” remains a commentary on the relationship between art and science.
